Invalid clicks, or click fraud, can be really frustrating when you are trying to drive conversions from your Google Ads campaign. In this video, I will set out some of the steps to prevent it.
Click fraud or invalid clicks is any interaction with your ad that hasn’t come from a person with real interest in your business. Sometimes this can be accidental, like when an ad pops up, but sometimes it can be a deliberate challenge from competitors.
Google takes some steps to protect advertisers from invalid clicks, such as Automated Detection Systems and Manual Reviews. Whilst they take serious steps towards prevention, there are some best practices that you can follow to protect your ads:
- Understand Your Traffic and website visitors by looking at your traffic reports and separating them into meaningful sections.
- Be Careful if you decide to purchase traffic and be sure to review the traffic provider checklist to help you to choose a provider. Their answers to these questions will help you to decide whether they are trustworthy.
- Check Your Ad Implementations to make sure that they have no programming errors, that they interact well with different browsers and confirm with AdSense policies. A well-designed page will protect you from accidental clicks.
- Don’t Click Your Ads, as this will impact your impressions and click-through rate.
