SEO Copywriting For Brands

SEO Copywriting For Brands – Effective Tips To Follow

Copywriting is the type of writing in which you create “copies,” i.e., content that is designed to promote or advertise a certain product or service. Normal content writing can be done for any sort of text, such as informational posts, manuals, etc. But copywriting is specifically for marketing content.

When this type of content is optimized for the search engines, the two processes merge together and become “SEO Copywriting.” In this post, we’re going to be looking at some tips that you can follow effectively.

1. Do proper keyword research

When we talk about creating any type of content for SEO, we have to mention keywords.

Keywords are very important for SEO. They are the words and the terms that define the page’s relevancy and topic to the search engines. They enable the search engines to understand what the content is about so that it (the content) can be ranked for the correct queries.

When you’re writing copies and you want to optimize them for SEO, you need to find the proper keywords to adjust in the text. “Proper,” in this context, refers to the suitability of the KWs in terms of relevance, volume, intent, and so forth.

Do proper keyword research

Some tips for KW research are given hereunder.

  • If your SEO efforts are not very extensive and you don’t have a very hefty budget, you should look for low-volume keywords so that you can easily rank for them.
  • Be sure to check the intent of the keywords that you are targeting. If the intent you choose does not align with the content that you’re writing, then it can cause trouble later on by making the search engine confused about how to rank the content.
  • When it comes to using KWs in the content, don’t focus on using them X number of times as is the opinion of most online sources. There are, of course, some guidelines and rules that you should follow when using keywords, such as putting them in the meta description and the meta title, etc. However, for the main body, you should focus on adjusting them as naturally as you can without overdoing it.

2. Perform audience research to specify the correct writing style

Another important tip to follow when doing SEO copywriting is adjusting the tone and style precisely to your audience. You should do audience research and find out about the type of content they typically like to read, the tone that usually appeals to them, and so forth.

Finding information like this helps you draw up a mental plan of how to proceed with the content in terms of tone and style. For example, if you do some surveys and find that most of your audience is in the younger age group (say 18 – 25), you will have to create content with a more chipper and informal style.

But if you conduct some research and find that most of our audience is in the older age segment, then your tone would have to be more formal and straightforward so that it appeals to the people who have to read it.

3. Create awesome meta descriptions and meta titles

The meta description and meta title are both very important parts of SEO content. They have to be written in a specific length, and they have to contain the main focus keyword.

But, along with that, they also have to be catchy and engaging so that anyone reading them, i.e., the metadata, is attracted to the entire post.

Create awesome meta descriptions and meta titles

There are a couple of different pointers that you should remember about writing meta descriptions and meta titles. Here are some of the most important ones:

  • The meta description can only be up to 155 characters long. If you write it longer than that, it will truncate off with the three dots.
  • The meta title should only be up to 55 characters
  • You should use the main keyword ONCE in the meta title and one time in the meta description
  • The meta description and title should describe the entire contents of the page

4. Write according to the KW search intent

There are different search intents of keywords that you select for your SEO content. For example, there are some keywords that have an “Informational” intent. The KW “What is SEO?” is an informational keyword because it aims to provide information about SEO.

Some KWs have a commercial intent. These are the keywords like “Buy cars in Ohio” because they aim at making available a certain service to the searcher.

Write according to the KW search intent

There is also a “Navigational” intent that contains keywords like “Hospitals near me” or “Hospitals in Okeechobee,” etc.

When you start writing your content, you should look at the main focus keywords that you’ve selected and create/follow a style that is appropriate to the intent. You can’t follow a wholly informational tone and style for a commercially intended piece of content and vice versa.

5. Focus on providing value

This is an important tip a lot of people can be somewhat oblivious of when it comes to creating SEO content.

A lot of writers focus on adjusting keywords and making headings in the content but they don’t give due attention to the actual value that it provides.

If you happen to be in this category, you should remember that the thing search engines value most is valuable and helpful content. There are a number of ways in which you can convey the value and helpfulness of your content to the search engine, such as:

  • Creating a thorough table of contents/content map that covers all the necessary facets of the topic at hand
  • Adding illustrations and examples to make the explanations easier to understand
  • Adding images and their respective alt tags
  • Adding charts, tables, bullets, etc., to present the information in a concise, correctly chronological, and consumable way

6. Be sure to check and remove grammar/spelling errors

Whether or not search engines directly use grammatical accuracy as a ranking factor is something of a debate. For example, according to the Search Engine Journal, grammatical accuracy is not a direct Google ranking factor although it is very important to convey the quality of your content.

However, some search engines like Bing are careful about ranking content that is grammatically correct.

Whatever the deal may be, the key takeaway here is that you should always check for grammar and spelling errors in the content before you give it a wrap and use it. You can find errors in there almost every time and it is worth it to remove them all.

Our personal recommendation for finding and removing grammar errors from content is based on the following steps:

  • When you’re done writing, take a short break and then come back to the content. Read it a couple of times from start to finish while keeping your eyes peeled for any possible grammar or spelling errors.
  • It can help to read the content out loud. That way, even if you mentally skip an error, you’re able to hear yourself saying it wrong. This has worked for me a lot of times personally.
  • With all of these steps, you should also use a grammar checker or a spell checker tool on the Internet as a good measure. There are many of them that you can find online.

7. Be sure to find and remove plagiarism

Last but not least, another very important step that you should always take when preparing SEO content is checking for plagiarism.

Plagiarism is the bane of every writing process. It is akin to poison in its lethality.

If there is plagiarism in your content and you publish it on your website, the search engines will hit it with a penalty. A penalty for committing plagiarism on your website can be anything from a rank reduction to complete website removal from the search engine index.

Whatever the outcome is, it’s not usually pleasant.

There is a routine that you should follow every time that you write content. Remember, plagiarism isn’t just the sentences or the passages that you copy deliberately but it is also the stuff that you write accidentally in the same way as someone else has already done.

In other words, you don’t have to be an active plagiarist to commit plagiarism. You could just be coincidentally unfortunate.

  • When you write the content, make sure to run it through an online plagiarism detection tool.
  • If the tool shows that the content is completely unique and there is no plagiarism in it, then that’s that. You can finalize it and hand it in however you want.
  • But if there are any traces of plagiarism in there, then you have to remove them before you do anything. There are a number of different ways in which you can get rid of plagiarism. We recommend paraphrasing the text, i.e., writing it in your own words and style but not changing the actual meaning.

Rephrasing tools can be a bit challenging, especially if there are a lot of parts to be attended to. You can try out a rephraser tool instead to make things easier. Paraphrasing tools basically do the rephrasing process on their own in a very short period of time, which is why they’re a great choice.

And that’s about it.

In the post above, we’ve looked at various tips and techniques that you can follow to write excellent SEO-optimized copy for marketing purposes. If you follow all of them to the letter the next time you need to write content, you’ll be able to make it more effective.
