What’s The Best Way To Improve SEO Without Hiring An Agency?

What’s The Best Way To Improve SEO Without Hiring An Agency?
Read the video transcript

What's the best way to improve my SEO without hiring an agency? Great question and you can do that. It's not blackmagic and it can be done very I wouldn't say easily but it's not rocket science either. You need to optimize first of all your Google Business Profile page. It's critical. Absolutely critical. And I see very few business owners or marketeers do this.

Complete every field. Add photos regularly. Post pretty much regularly or daily on it is the fastest free way for local SEO. and you'll win this game hands down because your competitors are not doing this and just taking let's say you went to a business networking event and I keep saying this to my wife because she goes to a lot of these business networking uh meetings and I think she's online as well so this one is for you for Zana take a photo and put it up on the business uh page because what happens is when you take a photo with your phone, the geocoordinates are embedded in the metadata of that file.

And when you upload it, Google map and Google sees that that okay, this person keeps going to these areas and then you type in business networking event or whatever with some keywords in it. Boom. Google knows that you are based in London or Birmingham or New York or Paris in this local area and you are a digital marketing company or a window cleaner or a plumber or whatever you may do.

So that's the easiest way to get ranked in Google in the local SEO. So for local SEO meaning that if somebody is looking for plumber near me or mechanic near me, you want your uh Google map to uh the the three-pack Google map to show your uh um business in there. Write helpful blog posts, not spammy blogs.

Answer questions your customers are searching for. And this is the perfect example. And I've done this many, many times before. Hundreds of times. I hop on a live stream. I'm building trust. I've got a handful of questions. That's my long form video. We chop it down into each question. And then we repurpose it as a video content, social media post, um, a blog post even.

So we can transcribe it, we can rewrite it that what I talked about in this video and I've got a blog post. So all of a sudden for going live for 30 45 minutes and let's say I've got 10 questions and I'm spending 3 minutes per question, I've got pretty much 10 blog post. So you can see how important this is to do something like this because with AI there is going to be a lot of spammy content rubbishy content where it will be just copy paste copy paste and people think that the more I put up the more I'm going to show up in Google and search engines not really no because you will not get any engagement uh on social media and you're not giving them any value.

So spend a little bit of time, start blogging. Um, get local backlinks. That's really important from local directories. Don't buy them. Uh, but you can get them by working with other local businesses and partners. So charities or any other company. So for example, if you are a photographer and you photograph a wedding at a certain hotel, you send the hotel some images of that event and just ask them.

That's free to use as long as you credit me or backlink me to my website. Now, if you got 20 different suppliers at a wedding, the cake lady, the car shop, the dresses, shoes, makeup stylist, hair stylist, all of these people, they all need good photos. You're the photographer. Keep sending them out. and all of a sudden you got a web of backlinks in the local area referring back to your website.

It's very simple to do, but you've got to do the work. It's not just going to happen uh on its own. Improve your onpage SEO as well. Simple basic stuff, not technical SEO. I'm not talking about techy stuff at all. I'm just talking in simple English so that anyone who's watching this understands it. So just have one page target one keyword.

Don't have dozens of keywords being um stuffed in that page. It won't work anything. Right? So have one main keyword in the title URL of the page and the headings and that's it. That is basically SEO. And the last thing which is really important are reviews. Google My Business or Google Business Profile reviews. Google loves trust signals.

More genuine reviews equals to higher visibility. If you saw two companies on Google, one with 100 reviews and the other one with five reviews, who are you going to trust? And this is exactly what Google also does the same thing. So try to get reviews from as many customers as possible and you're good to go. And you will find that your local SEO and rankings and traffic to your website is going to increase.

If you think improving your SEO means hiring an expensive agency, think again. With a few consistent habits and a bit of time, you can make a big difference to your website’s visibility on Google all by yourself. Here’s how.

1. Start With Your Google Business Profile

Complete every section business name, address, phone number, website, hours, and description. Then, upload fresh photos regularly and post updates. Even short posts about your daily work or events help.

For example, if you attend a local business meetup, take a photo and upload it to your profile.

Those photos carry geolocation data that helps Google understand where your business operates. Over time, this helps you rank higher for “near me” searches like “plumber near me” or “marketing agency in London.”

2. Write Helpful Content

Don’t just blog for the sake of blogging. Instead, write about what your customers actually ask you. Answer their questions directly in simple, clear language.

If you already make videos or go live on social media, you can repurpose that content into blog posts. For instance, if you answered 10 common customer questions in a live stream, that’s 10 potential blog posts. It’s an easy way to keep your site active without constantly creating new material from scratch.

Avoid spammy, copy-paste content. Google values useful, original writing that helps readers, not AI-stuffed paragraphs full of keywords.

Build High-Quality Backlinks

Local backlinks help Google see that your business is part of your community. These are links from other local websites, like a nearby hotel, charity, or small business.

Let’s say you’re a photographer. If you cover a wedding at a local venue, send the venue some of your photos and ask for a credit link back to your website. Do this with other suppliers, florists, caterers, and decorators, and soon you’ll have a network of backlinks that strengthen your local SEO naturally.

Never buy backlinks. Focus on genuine partnerships and collaborations.

4. Improve On-Page SEO (Without Overthinking It)

Optimise For On-Page SEO

On-page SEO doesn’t need to be technical. The key is to focus on one main keyword per page.

Make sure your keyword appears in:

  • The page title
  • The URL
  • The main heading (H1)
  • A few times, naturally, in the content

That’s it. Don’t overstuff your pages with too many keywords. Keep it clean and relevant.

5. Collect Reviews

Reviews are powerful trust signals. If your competitor has 100 reviews and you have five, who do you think customers (and Google) will trust more?

Ask every happy customer to leave you a review on Google. Respond to each review, good or bad, because engagement also matters. More genuine reviews = better visibility and more credibility.

Final Thoughts

Improving SEO doesn’t require fancy tools or expensive consultants. It takes consistent effort and smart habits.

Complete your Google profile, post regularly, create helpful content, build real local links, and keep collecting reviews. Do these simple steps, and you’ll notice steady growth in your website traffic, all without paying a single penny to an agency.
